Scale is your water's dissolved minerals, captured. The catch is thermal: scale insulates the heating element, so a heavily scaled distiller runs slower and uses more electricity for the same output.
The 15-minute descaling routine
- Switch off, unplug, cool. Never descale a hot tank.
- Add warm water + descaler. Fill past the scale line, add the recommended dose of PWS Descaler.
- Soak 30–60 minutes. Overnight for heavy buildup. The fizzing and discoloured water is the scale dissolving.
- Drain and rinse 2–3 times. Use the impurity drain valve; wipe with a soft cloth — never steel wool, which scratches stainless steel and gives future scale a grip.
- Run one cycle and discard it. This rinses the steam path. You're done.
